The art of public speaking and crafting oral presentations

The art of public speaking and crafting oral presentations

This workshop will provide participants with the necessary tools and skills to deliver memorable presentations, while also increasing confidence in public speaking. Because we all have quirks when we are public speaking, the first part of the workshop will address common, distracting quirks, and easy-to-implement tips that can improve delivery. The second will focus on topic selection and structuring presentations. Participants will then have an opportunity to apply these in the third session which will be composed of practice in small groups and a Q&A with the instructor. Please note this workshop focuses on oral presentation skills, so slideshow visuals will not be discussed.

In this workshop students will:

  • Develop confidence in public speaking
  • Learn to confidently select topics for a variety of presentation types (ex: lightning talks, class presentations etc.)
  • Identify structural techniques that will strengthen their presentations according to type
