Job Description
Student Maker & Technology Program Assistant (2 positions)
If you are a student pursuing post-secondary education in the fields of library science, education, or technology, Haliburton County Public Library is looking forward to giving you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through our Student Maker & Technology Program Assistant position.
The successful applicants will gain experience by planning and carrying out an 8 week summer maker program in a public library environment. Project goals include:
- Assess our current fleet of maker equipment, including what gaps need filled.
- Develop a 2-month schedule of maker and technology-focused programs using our under-utilized equipment, in collaboration with HCPL staff.
- Design and implement programming (1) based on community need and (2) across multiple service points throughout Haliburton County.
You will be supervised by HCPL’s Programming & Outreach Coordinator, a professional Librarian with a Master of Library and Information Science degree (MLIS).
Successful candidates will be keen problem solvers, able to work independently and as a team, enjoy working with people with different skill sets and backgrounds, and eager to learn and try new things.
Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria, required for Young Canada Works funding:
- Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada
- Are between 16 – 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Will not have another full-time job during the YCW work assignment
- Have been a full-time high school college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester proceeding the YCW work assignment; and
- Intend to return to full time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
Applicants must possess a class G driver’s license. The successful applicant will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector check.
