Job Summary

The OMA Research Centre is currently in the process of modernizing its collection to optimize physical space. An Electronic Collection Assistant is needed to help library staff with weeding and digitizing the collection over a period of 3 months on a full-time basis. Foundational work is currently underway, and library staff expect to require additional help as soon as possible. Reporting to the Director, Research Group, and under the direction of the Coordinator, Research Centre, the incumbent will assist with weeding, cataloguing, and digitization activities associated with downsizing the physical Research Centre collection. Successful candidates will be required to work on-site at the OMA office.

 

You Will Make a Difference By

Using the Internet to locate and download reports and other documents online.

Naming and filing electronic resources according to internal naming and filing conventions.

Updating Research Centre database records per established conventions.

Communicating regularly with the Coordinator, Research Centre to provide updates on progression of tasks.

Scanning hard copy documents as needed to PDF format.

Some light lifting (boxes, books), shelving of library materials, and reaching overhead may be required.

Other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements That Are Important to Us

A cover letter that outlines why you are interested in the position and how you meet the job requirements.

Completion of at least one year of a Library Technician Diploma.

Completion of a bachelor’s degree or previous work experience in a special or academic library.

Proficient with the use of the internet to locate documents (e.g., reports) online.

Conversant with cataloguing standards and practices.

Experience scanning documents to PDF format.

Experience using Excel.

Attention to detail a must for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the Research Centre database.

Good documentation and organizational skills.

Ability to work with other staff as part of a team.

Autonomous – able to work with minimal supervision.

Experience working with InMagic Genie software preferred.

Familiarity with PDF editing software is an asset.

Familiarity with searching the Internet Archive and other online catalogues is an asset.

Familiarity with the principles of collection development is an asset.
