Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Community and University Archivist. This position, reporting to the Director of Distinctive Collections, will join the Special Collections and University Archives Department with a primary curatorial assignment focusing on the University and the western Great Basin. The Community and University Archivist (CUA) serves a vital role in assisting the University to foster its unique identity and sense of place, and document its significance to Nevada, the region, and the world. The CUA is responsible for appraisal and acquisition of materials in all formats and will provide leadership and expertise in the Libraries’ efforts to document and preserve the history, activities, and impact of significant topical areas and regional communities.
The CUA will seek out archives and special collections materials that add to or strengthen diverse voices and experiences in the department’s collections. The CUA will work with a wide range of staff, campus, and community partners to develop and promote the collections and the archives in support of teaching, research, and learning. The CUA will be the primary contact for collection creators, experts, and donors and is aware of and participates in national and regional theoretical, conceptual, and practical developments in the field of archival studies, and cultivates external impact in the form of service to the profession and original research.
