Job Description
Reporting to the Archives Administrator, the Archives Research Assistant will improve the access to Laurier Archives and Special Collections’ environmental conservation holdings. Canadian Arctic Resources Committee (CARC) was a public interest research and advocacy organization committed to supporting environmentally responsible northern development, the rights of Indigenous peoples, the authority of northern territorial governments, and increased international co-operation in the circumpolar world. The Archives Research Assistant will improve the accessibility of the CARC fonds by researching the history of CARC, re-processing records in accordance with current descriptive standards, and process recently donated accruals. They will research and identify CARC records containing data and information by and about First Nations, and support the Head, Archives and Special Collections in developing a strategy to apply the First Nations principles of OCAP (ownership, control, access, and possession) to these records. The Archives Research Assistant will complete the Fundamentals of OCAP course to facilitate this work. They will synthesize information about CARC and create a physical exhibit in Laurier Archives and Special Collections reading room.

The Archives Research Assistant will research environmental conservation records within Laurier Archives and Special Collections, synthesize their findings, and create and publish a research guide of environmental conservation records in the holdings. They will create and publish posts about environmental conservation fonds and collections on various social media platforms. Professional development opportunities will be provided throughout the term of employment.

The successful candidate will be a recent graduate from a Master of Library, Information or Archival Studies program. The candidate must:
