Crosstalk Series Winter 2024 line up

Join the Faculty of Information’s Crosstalk Series, an informal weekly speaker series in which two faculty members discuss their current research, look for common themes and answer questions from the audience. Learn about diverse research in the field of Information, uncover ‘hidden’ connections and encourage crossectoral collaboration within the Faculty. All students, staff and faculty are welcome. Talks will take place on select Mondays from 1 pm to 2:30 pm in BL728, 140 St. George Street (Claude Bissell Building). Light refreshments will be served.

Health Informatics: A Key to Health Systems Transformation

Health systems around the world try to accomplish the vision of better health outcomes, improved patient experience, lower costs, improved health care staff experience, and greater health equity (The Quintuple Aim).  To do so, they strive to become Learning Health Systems, characterized by an ongoing cycle of learning from experience and system-generated data, and continuous improvements to practice based on this learning. In this Crosstalk, Professors Javed Mostafa and Aviv Shachak will discuss the informatics foundations that are needed to support a learning health system and the quintuple aim; specifically, the research informatics (Mostafa) and health professions education (Shachak) infrastructure.

Labour & Technology: Studying Digital Work

How do we study labour in the digital economy? Join Profs. Alessandro Delfanti and Vera Khovanskaya for a discussion of the strategies, ethics, and politics of researching with workers in highly automated and algorithmically managed workplaces, from customer service to e-commerce to ride-hail and delivery work.
